Growing up in Pretoria wasn't easy for Elon Musk. A rugged childhood was not to bring delight without the willingness to change his life's impact. Over some three decades later, he is man worth US$12.6 billion.
Musk started his first business with relatives in Pretoria where he started a gaming shop as a teenager. His ambitions would not suffice his outcomes though, as he soon made a jump to Canada where he spent his time travelling and seeing family, while picking up money along the way.
Many of Musk's childhood friends and peers comment that he was a reserved person who enjoyed to be the hidden optimist in the room. From surrounding himself with like-minded people in Canada, he soon started to feel like he could produce the impact he wanted.
After a couple of years studying in Canada and America, Musk soon made his way down to Silicon Valley where he and his brother started Zip2. At the time, living in the office and showering at the YMCA was very real to these two young entrepreneurs. The luxury was not reality at the time, and soon after, Musk's entrepreneurial adventures continued when Paypal was sold leaving Musk with a handsome US$165 million.
The US billionaire now resides in California where he looks after Tesla Motors, SolarCity and OpenAl.
If there is one thing that you can take from Musk and his story, it is that if you really want to do something and make an impact then you should just go for it.
Musk has repeatedly made investments into companies and not left enough money for rent, and it just goes to show that when you follow your vision, your excuses will evaporate.
