Elon Musk (pictured above) is known for his anti-sympathetic approach towards low standards in any of his ventures, so as business owners, why should we settle with sympathy for under-performers in our teams?
Too often business owners settle with low standards because there is sympathy for the position that the employee is in. This is partly due to us being empathetic as we have all seen what it is like to be an employee, and also that there are signs of inertia towards performance corrections.
So, the question really is:
Why should we compromise are standards on the basis of incompetent employees?
The answer is clear to some, and mixed to others. Thee truth is that whatever you want out of that question will be base on what your expectations are as a person.
Where people differentiate in life often reflects how they lead their teams in business.
Business owners also compromise standards due to the employee and their specific life events. Thinking about the employee is often another contributing factor to why business owners make or do not make the choices that they fall into.
There has to be a balance between internal standards and how people are meant to be living up to the set standards.
Not all employees will live up to the requirements, and it is this temperament that confines managers, but as entrepreneurs our risk adversity needs to come into play, and we need to make choices that are aligned to the mission, vision and objectives of the business - without exception.
